Deb DiMarco is
Administrator of the Carlisle School of Glass
Art. Her experience as a painter, illustrator
and graphic designer has given her a strong
background in two dimensional design, while
jewelry making and metalsmithing led in the
direction of three dimensional design. She has
studied at the Fleisher Memorial Art School and
Philadelphia College of Art and holds a degree
in glass art from Salem Community College.
Seeing molten glass as pigment waiting to be
sculpted into form, the discipline needed to
work at the torch appeals to her as well
as striving for perfection in the special
challenge of controlling hot glass. She
continues to explore jewelry making techniques
and tends to use whimsical creatures as
a narrative. Each piece has its own personality,
formed from fire, born at the torch. Deb also
enjoys kiln work and using a mosaic technique of
fusing to create paintings from bits of colored
glass.
Ms. DiMarco is well
known in our area as an instructor in
lampworking and kiln formed glass. She feels
that "the process of creation is like a stream
of consciousness, continually expanding and
emerging. Working with glass as a medium is
particularly satisfying because it offers so
many challenges and different forms of
expression." Born and raised in Haddonfield,
NJ, her studio is now located in Salem, NJ where
she lives and works with her two Bouvier des
